Lemmy Kilmeister

Two versions of the same idea. The first little scribble and the more worked-up drawing. I kinda like the first one better!

Caricature Exchange

These are all quick drawings of fellow artists from the Caricature Exchange group on Facebook. Good practice!

Monica Bellucci

Some sketches of the Italian babe to try and work out her likeness. Not easy!

Les Visiteurs

A comic-style caricature of Jean Reno as the knight from Les Visiteurs, with his sidekick Christian Clavier. I rushed this because I was a bit low on time this week and the likenesses aren't as strong as they should be.

Les Robinson

My mate Les recently sent me a photo of himself taken so as to look like a picture taken somewhere in the Wild West in the 19th century. It was such a great reference photo that I had to do a caricature.

Gus

I can tell I'm not going to finish this little exercise. I'll have another go at drawing my favourite dog some other time though, I'm sure.

Michael Jordan (no.1)

For CS3000, I might have a few more tries this week, such a good face.

The Spaghetti Western Orchestra

I drew a group caricature of the great band The Spaghetti Western Orchestra, which features my uncle Graeme and friends of his from Melbourne. They are all great characters and it was lots of fun to draw their cool costumes and white-painted faces.

Didier Loubat

A quick biro/pen/brush/p'shop drawing of the brilliant caricaturist Didier Loubat done for Caricature Exchange on Facebook.

Mario Benedetti

2 approaches to a wonderful head. For CS3000.

Hayao Miyazaki - 2nd go

I added some Japanese kites to place him up in the clouds...

Hiyao Miyazaki

Lou Reed Sketch

Listening to "Berlin" all day, in Berlin... I had to draw him.

Comic Book Romance

...was the theme for OzComics Draw-Off #24. So I drew Hellboy and Liz Sherman.

Consti and Christopher

A private job for a good mate of mine, he printed it onto a hoodie for his brother for Christmas.

Ricky Gervais

For CS3000... Tried to capture that smarmy, sweaty, sleazy look he often has.

Breaking Bad

I've never seen the show but I've only ever heard great things and it happens to be the theme for this week's OzComics Draw-off #17.

Flash Gordon

For OZComics Draw-Off #16. I tried to make it look as much like the work of Alex Raymond as I could (on the Cintiq, anyway). Can't work out which colour scheme works better so I'll post them both.

The Rocketeer

I'm not really too familiar with the Rocketeer, I don't even think I saw the movie that came out about 20 years ago. But it was this week's theme for the OzComics Drawoff, so I had a go. I wanted things to look much more cartoony, but I ended up with something far from it. Sometimes that happens!

Christian Bale

For CS3000. So many cool roles to choose from, but I went with the loveable crack-head Dicky Eklund Jr. from The Fighter. Here is a look at the process work, from first sketch to colour illustration. I have a feeling the sketch is still the best likeness!

Pygmalion

I missed the cut-off for this week's OzComics mythology-themed challenge. But I've always loved the story of Pygmalion, and used to like staring at the reproduction of Jean-Leon Gerome's painting of the theme at art school, so I had a go anyway. I didn't have much time to work anything up much this week, but it's still a bit of fun.

Vincent Price

Here is a quick pen, brush and ink sketch of Vincent Price for CS3000. It could be a busy week work-wise so I wanted to at least get something down quickly! Would love to have another go if I find the time.

O Brother Where Art Thou?...With colour...

Steve Jobs

For Caricaturama Showdown 3000. A man sent back in time to reshape the future by changing the past...

O Brother Where Art Thou?

Another go at the Coen Bros theme for the OzComics Draw-Off... Just the linework here, colours still to come.

OzComics Draw-Off #11 - Coen Bros.

This week's theme was chosen by the winner of last week's Draw-Off, Douglas Holgate, and he picked the films and characters of the Coen brothers. I had to have a go straight away! Here is Anton Chigurh, the über-villain from No Country for Old Men, and Carl and Gaear from Fargo.

Vincent Van Gogh

Vincent Van Gogh for Caricaturama Showdown 3000. One of my favourite painters. I personally don't think he was mad, but it was fun playing with the stereotype.

Tom Waits (take 2)

"Herzrasen" Pitch

This was a pitch for a German advertising agency. A comic featuring Diane Kruger being driven fast around a racing circuit.

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

Tom Waits

Couldn't be happier with this week's choice of caricature subject on CS3000 on Facebook, one of my heroes, Tom Waits.
I had to have a go straight away, might have gotten a bit carried away with the textural side of things here, but felt like a lot of fun after the Djokovic one.

Novak Dojokovic - Process

Process for the Novak Djokovic caricature from first sketch through to finished digital painting.

Pirates (take 2)

Couldn't resist one more stab at the Ozcomics challenge. Pirates are good fun.
